Well Shit, Another Blog About Mental Health

Leslie Jordan is my spirit animal

Hey! Its me! Here with another blog on mental health!

On today’s episode:

Burn out and the exacerbation of existing mental health issues during a global fucking pandemic,  looming economic crash, failing government and it’s supporting systems.

We are living in crazy times.

Y’all alright? <Erykah Badu voice>

Lets just take a moment and celebrate the fact that we are here, together, and sharing this moment in time.

Drop your shoulders, unclench your jaw and take 3 deep breaths.

1. In through the nose, out through the mouth

2. In through the nose, out through the mouth

3. In through the nose, out through the mouth.

Shit is crazy right now, your feelings are valid and I care about you. You are not alone, and we really are living in unprecedented times. Let your expectations go and focus on health and happiness. That is the fuel that will get you through. Self-care bayeebee. Easier said than done, I know.

I’m going to *try* and keep this short and sweet but we all know I am long winded * wait- is that the right phrase for written word? **feverishly googles**

Long-winded is used to describe to someone or something that goes on and on—it can be applied to a person or to a speech or a piece of writing.

Ok, cool! moving on….

As I was saying, things are crazy and the travesties continue to pile on, so we must engage radical self-love and self-care, so that we can keep taking care of ourselves, our friends, and families. We are in this together, but we are having our own experiences, so we need to personalize our self-care.

I am taking the full week off next week. I have been crashing and burning at work for weeks. Flopping and flailing as my company tries to find its footing amongst damning circumstances and impossible situations.  Trying to disrupt the US healthcare system is no easy feat. Adding the stress of work to my own mental, physical, and health struggles. PLUS this world we are living in, overloading myself with tasks and certifications, my lack of human interaction, lack of intimacy, touch starvation, being unable to do the things I enjoy, learning that my home is literally breaking in half, my hot water tank malfunctioning, and starting what will be a long process of coming to terms with the fact that I am unable to take care of my home on my own… I’ve started to crumble. The bill has come, and I need to pay up. Pay up for the trauma I have not healed, for the emotion I have stifled, my stubbornness and inability to ask for help, for the lack of grace I give myself, and for all the times I put myself last. I no longer have a choice, I have to fiercely choose myself every moment of everyday. That is how I turn the tide. That is how we can all turn the tides.

I have an extreme privilege to work at a company with unlimited paid time off (PTO) and leaders that allow me to drop everything and focus on my mental health. They did not really have a choice TBVH and I think they knew that as well. I was breaking in plain sight.

That being said, I realize not everyone has that opportunity to drop everything and take time for themselves. I have not started my formal health coaching practice yet, but I happy to chat with you on ways you can make time for yourself and brainstorm ways you can fill your cup. Not everyone can take time off of work, or even get alone time, but we can get creative and I would love to help you! ANNNNNND I know lots of great coaches and practitioners that are currently taking on new clients so I can also help connect you to more folks based on your needs!

We can heal ourselves and turn the burnout around with radical self care.

One more time, for the road 😉

    1. I’ve got an idea for you!
Set a daily alarm at a times that’s good for you. Then when your alarm goes off, set a timer so you can do 5 mins of breathing. It’s a simple place to start daily self care😘
Breathe in through your nose for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts , breathe out of your mouth for 6 counts. This actually changes the chemicals in your body with so many other added benefits 🙌
